Salvia, also known as sage, is a genus of flowering plants that belongs to the mint family.

Salvia thrives in warm climates and prefers full sun exposure.

Salvia prefers well-draining soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. If your soil is heavy or clay-like, consider adding organic matter, such as compost, to improve drainage and fertility.

Start by digging a hole slightly larger than the root ball of your salvia plant. Place the plant in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Backfill the hole with soil and gently firm it around the plant.

While salvia is drought-tolerant once established, it's important to provide regular watering during the first few weeks after planting. Water deeply, allowing the soil to dry out between watering to prevent root rot.

Salvia generally doesn't require heavy fertilization. However, a balanced slow-release fertilizer applied in early spring can promote healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Regular pruning is essential to maintain the shape and encourage new growth in salvia plants. After the blooming season, trim back the spent flowers and remove any dead or damaged stems.

Salvia is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. However, keep an eye out for common issues such as aphids, spider mites, and powdery mildew. If necessary, treat with organic insecticides or fungicides.
